The Science of Words

How language designs your life

As I’ve been flying in and out of the shops this week — glittery snowflakes hanging everywhere, fairy lights twinkling and shining colourfully, and (love it or hate it!) Mariah Carey blasting out of every PA system — I’ve found myself genuinely buzzing. I love the lights and the colours, I adore buying gifts for the people I love; there’s something wonderfully exciting about it. Yet in the middle of all this sparkle, I’m very mindful that the word “Christmas” doesn’t resonate like this for everyone. For some it means joy, connection, anticipation. For others it signifies pressure, loneliness, old memories, or panic and logistical chaos. Same word… completely different frequency. It got me thinking about the incredible power our words have to shape the way we feel — and the way we experience our lives. So that’s exactly what led me into the real heart of this month’s newsletter: the science of why words matter.

The Words We Use - The Worlds We Create

I love words. I always have. I love their sound, their rhythm, the way they can transport us to other worlds or pull an emotion out of nowhere. I love how clever they can be — how a single phrase can shift a whole perspective. But words also have a darker edge. 'The pen is mightier than the sword' didn’t survive centuries by accident. The language we choose can be a force for clarity, connection and creation… or for distortion and destruction.
And it’s strange when you think about it — because on the surface, words are just letters on a page, symbols we’ve agreed on, sounds in the air. Yet somehow they hold the power to shape our mood, our mindset, and even our behaviour. Why?

The Frequency Behind Every Word

Earlier this week, I was listening to one of my mentors, Kevin Trudeau. He was talking about how every word carries a frequency — an energetic signature — that shapes our emotional state before we’re even conscious of it. Take the word 'change' for example. We hear that word and our system recoils. 'Change' feels like effort, disruption, pressure.. and carries fear of the unknown. But swap it for the word 'improve' and something subtly shifts. 'Improve' feels like expansion, refinement, upward motion - creating something better.

One triggers resistance; the other opens possibility. Different wording = different frequency = different emotional response. Same intention, wildly different vibration.

Most people think words are just communication. But words are actually vibrational blueprints — tiny tuning forks that shift how we feel, how we think, and who we become. Every word carries a frequency that either anchors us to the identity of who we have been or nudges us toward the person we are becoming. Kevin’s point about swapping change for improve is spot on. That’s why identity-level work starts with language. We can’t create a future we love with words that keep us anchored to who we used to be.

The Science That Makes This Real

This isn’t just philosophy. Masaru Emoto famously photographed water crystals after exposing them to different words, sounds and intentions — and the results were nothing short of extraordinary. Words like “love,” “gratitude,” and “peace” produced intricate, symmetrical crystals that looked like tiny works of art — structured, harmonious, coherent. In contrast, words like “hate,” “I’ll kill you,” and “you fool” created distorted, fragmented forms — chaotic, broken patterns with no order at all.

So think about this: our bodies are roughly 60% water. If water responds that dramatically to language and intention, it’s not a stretch to consider that our internal world might do the same. The words we use — out loud and in our own mind — are literally shaping our internal landscape. High-frequency language creates alignment, clarity, and emotional coherence. Low-frequency language creates tension, fragmentation, and internal chaos.

It’s biology meets spirituality meets straight-up common sense — and once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

Which is why becoming conscious of the words we choose isn’t just a nice idea — it’s foundational. When we understand the mechanics behind language and frequency, we start to realise just how much power we hold in shaping our own inner world. And that’s exactly what led me to this month’s book recommendation…

On My Bookshelf...

My book recommendation this month is Your Wish Is Your Command by Kevin Trudeau — not because I’ve read the words yet, but because his work consistently sharpens my thinking and strengthens the way I coach. His insights on frequency, language and intention cut straight to the core of real transformation.

It’s going right to the top of my Christmas list.

Final Thoughts

As we move into the last stretch of the year, this is a powerful moment to become more aware of the language you’re living inside. The words you use with yourself — the subtle ones, the familiar ones, the automatic ones — are shaping your emotions, your decisions, and ultimately the life you’re walking into.

Tiny shifts in language can create enormous shifts in trajectory.
This is how transformation begins: quietly, internally, and with one conscious choice.

So as you navigate these next few weeks, notice your words.
Choose the ones that lift you.
Release the ones that constrict you.
And remember — you’re not just speaking about your life; you’re shaping it from the inside out.
