Lights, Camera, Action.....
I’m thrilled to share an unforgettable experience from last week when a film crew visited my home to interview me for a new, 90-minute documentary. The energy was electric as they set up, and while I felt a mix of pride, excitement, and a bit of nervousness, I was moved by revisiting the challenges and breakthroughs that have defined my path. This documentary will feature my story alongside several others, each on a unique journey of transformation. Editing will take time, but the final product will be worth the wait—a powerful celebration of courage, growth, and the pursuit of a life well-lived. I can’t wait for you to witness these stories of resilience and purpose. Stay tuned, and thank you for being part of this journey!
Unmasking the Myths - The Truth About Self-Doubt and Procrastination
Continuing with the film theme, we are all born to star in the movie of our own lives yet far too often we end up just being an extra in someone else’s movie! Self-doubt and procrastination are two common hurdles many of us encounter. They can show up in our home lives, our relationships and in the workplace and they prevent us from winning the oscar for best actor or actress in our own blockbuster of a life. However, these two challenges are often surrounded by myths that can make them seem insurmountable or even shameful. Understanding the truth behind these misconceptions can empower you to break free from self-doubt and procrastination, helping you move closer to your goals with confidence.
Myth #1: “Self-Doubt Means You’re Not Capable” One of the most damaging myths about self-doubt is the idea that it reflects a lack of capability or talent. In reality, self-doubt is simply a mental hurdle—it doesn’t define your ability to achieve success. In fact, many high achievers experience self-doubt. Authors, artists, CEOs, and athletes often report feeling unsure of themselves, despite their accomplishments. Self-doubt is a natural response to growth and pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone. Instead of seeing self-doubt as a weakness, recognize it as a sign that you're challenging yourself and stepping into new territory.
The truth: Self-doubt doesn’t mean you lack ability. It simply means you’re aware of the risks involved in trying something new. Embracing this feeling can actually be a powerful motivator to prepare thoroughly and seek guidance, helping you to grow in the process.
Myth #2: “Procrastination is Just Laziness” Procrastination is often misinterpreted as laziness. While laziness implies a lack of desire or motivation, procrastination is more often rooted in fear, perfectionism, or uncertainty. When we procrastinate, it’s usually not because we don’t care but because we care too much and feel anxious about potential failure or judgement. High-achievers and perfectionists are particularly prone to procrastination because they place enormous pressure on themselves to succeed. Procrastination becomes a defence mechanism—a way to avoid the uncomfortable feelings associated with fear of not meeting high expectations.
The truth: Procrastination isn’t a sign of laziness; it’s often a symptom of deeper emotional or mental blocks. By identifying the root causes—such as fear of failure or perfectionism—you can address these underlying issues, making it easier to take action without self-imposed pressure.
Self-doubt and procrastination are not scene stealers; they are signals. By recognizing the myths that surround them, you can take control, gain clarity, and transform these challenges into tools for growth. Instead of viewing self-doubt and procrastination as weaknesses, see them as part of the journey toward a more resilient, confident you as you step into the lead role of the movie of your life!
